The Bear is a rare beast indeed. We are a gastropub tucked away in deepest Camberwell, South London. We are a Freehouse, which means we can stock an eclectic range of beers, lagers, ales, wines and spirits that you will not find in your average drinking hole. On the food side we specialise in traditional English and French country fare, all freshly prepared daily by our award winning team. Take some time to have a look round our website to find out what The Bear is all about.

The fabulous Swing Patrol hosts Swing Dance Classes each and every Wednesday evening at The Bear. They commence from 7:30pm and if you don’t have a dance partner you can still join in the fun as not partner is needed for theses classes. So why not make an evening of it? Swing the night away followed by a few drinks with your class mates. It is a great way to get fit, meet people and have a good laugh.
Every Tuesday at The Bear is Quiz Night with our resident quizmaster.
It’s £2 per player to participate (maximum 6 per team), and the winning team takes the pot, with second place winning a bottle of wine. We do advise for teams to arrive by 7.30pm for the 8pm start, to ensure a table.
We also run a bi-monthly Leader Board. At the end of the bi-monthly round the overall winning team receives a meal on us and the runner-up receives a bottle of Champagne.
The Bear Freehouse is twinned with Le Chalet du Rassel, a former brewery built in the 1880s in the typical Savoyard style. Beer was brewed to be exported across the border into Italy and carried by mules who also used sleds during the winter snows. The Le Chalet du Rassel is located in the heart of the French Alps. It has been operating as a chalet since 1999 when it was converted by the owner into luxury ski accommodation.
By joining our mailing list, you can get monthly(ish) updates of what’s happening at The Bear. New dishes, drinks, events and other relevant seasonal information. We promise not to clog your inbox with needless gubbins.
